Four days after his death Monday, at the age of 88, Jean-Paul Belmondo has the honors of a tribute to the Invalides.

The ceremony began this Thursday around 4:30 p.m., with the arrival of the Republican Guard, then President Emmanuel Macron.

The Head of State is to deliver a funeral eulogy in homage to the one he described as "national treasure".

This national tribute is due to end around 5.30 p.m. with the release of the coffin to the sound of

Chi Mai

by Ennio Morricone, the soundtrack of the film

Le Professionnel

, played by the orchestra of the Republican Guard.

"He is immortal, Jean-Paul, he will never leave"

Patrick Bruel, Gilles Lellouche, Jean Dujardin, the couple Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard, the DJ Bob Sinclar, Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, or even Cyril Hanouna, were seen among the celebrities who arrived at the ceremony.

“Saint-Augustine said, the dead are invisible, not absent.

For me Jean-Paul, he is not absent.

Jean-Paul is like Johnny he is there.

He wouldn't have wanted us to shout.

He is immortal, Jean-Paul, he will never leave, ”Michel Drucker told BFMTV.

In addition to the family, personalities and many members of the government, including Keeper of the Seals Eric Dupond-Moretti and Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot, nearly 1,000 people from the public were also allowed inside the Invalides, provided with their health pass.

The doors of the Invalides will then open to all those who want to meditate from 7:30 p.m. in front of the coffin.

An exceptional device that had already been implemented after the death of Jacques Chirac in 2019.

The funeral of Jean-Paul Belmondo will follow on Friday morning in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés church in the privacy of family and loved ones.

The ceremony will be followed by a cremation, also in private.
