Sri Lanka .. "Health" advises women to postpone pregnancy due to the risk of "Corona"

The Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka has advised women to postpone their pregnancies for at least a year due to the spread of COVID-19.

Hemantha Hirath, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Director-General of Health Services said Thursday that he believes this is a safe precaution, but it has not yet lived up to a government decision.

The move came after the number of pregnant women who died of Covid-19 in the past four months rose to 40.

"We urge families to consider using a birth control method for a year, as during that time we may better understand the after-effects of COVID-19 and may have a better vaccine," said Harsha Atapattu, a government-run obstetrician and gynecologist.

He explained that initially, only pregnant women over the age of 35 were advised to be vaccinated against the virus.

Subsequently, the advice was updated to suggest that all women who were more than 12 weeks pregnant should be vaccinated.

Now, all pregnant women are directed to get the vaccination.

"However, in light of the spread of the Delta strain, our advice now is to delay pregnancy," Atapattu said.
