7.00 Vaccines reduce the probability of developing persistent Covid by up to 50%, according to a study

Some of the people infected by SARS-CoV-2 continue to manifest symptoms or sequelae persistently for months.

Recent studies have increased the evidence that indicates that prolonged Covid can appear even in those people who have had the disease in a mild or asymptomatic way.

Now, a new study suggests that vaccination could also reduce the risk of developing persistent Covid.

The work has been developed by a group of researchers from King's College London and their results have been published in

The Lancet Infectious Diseases

.

The study reveals that those people who have completed the vaccination schedule are up to 50% less likely to develop persistent symptoms associated with the disease that last beyond four weeks after the onset of infection.

7.00 Some 100,000 immunosuppressed people will be able to receive a third dose of the vaccine from today

The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, announced this Wednesday that the Government and the CCAA unanimously approved the administration of an additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to patients with certain immunosuppressions such as solid organ transplants or oncology treatment, some 100,000 people, who could receive this inoculation as of tomorrow, Thursday.

This was stated at the press conference after the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (Cisns) held electronically in the Moncloa Complex.

The head of Health recalled that the Public Health Commission approved administering an additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to some people in a situation of serious immunosuppression, in whom there is a high risk of an inadequate immune response to the conventional vaccination schedule.

Specifically, "the additional dose to complete the vaccination regimen is indicated for people with solid organ transplants, hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients and people undergoing treatment with anti-CD20 drugs, for patients with lymphoma and leukemia."

It is estimated that these people may number about 100,000.

that could be inoculated as of today Thursday.

In this sense, the minister stressed that "the autonomous communities will be the ones to contact these patients and each community will establish the procedure to follow."
