In April this year, the Education Bureau announced the optimization of the four core subjects of high school, of which the general education subject was replaced by the citizenship subject.

With the start of the new semester in September, the S4 Citizenship Course has been started one after another.

From the announcement of the optimization plan to the implementation of the course, only a short period of 5 months.

In an interview with the media that day, Yang Runxiong said in response to a question from a reporter from China News Agency that the Education Bureau will provide training for teachers of relevant courses within the past 5 months to enable them to understand the concept, outline, and evaluation methods of the new course.

He revealed that since April, the Education Bureau has arranged more than 7,000 teachers to participate in the training.

The civics curriculum is composed of three themes: "Hong Kong under'One Country, Two Systems'", "Country Since Reform and Opening Up", and "Interconnected Contemporary World".

Because it is difficult for local publishers to publish new subject textbooks in a short time, Yang Runxiong said that the Education Bureau has prepared the first part of the course "Hong Kong under'One Country, Two Systems'" textbooks for teachers, including 12 sets of briefings, teaching cases, reference materials, etc. It covers the history of the establishment of the SAR, the formulation of the Hong Kong Basic Law, the relationship between the constitution and the Hong Kong Basic Law, the current development of the country, and the diversified Hong Kong society.

Yang Runxiong revealed that the Education Bureau will also prepare textbooks for the other two parts of the "country since the reform and opening up" and the "interconnected contemporary world". On the one hand, teachers can prepare lessons earlier, and on the other hand, they can also provide reference for publishing textbooks. .

He predicts that the citizen science textbook will be ready in April and May next year.

Yang Runxiong said frankly that the introduction of a new subject within a few months is historic.

For the time being, no major problems have been seen in the implementation of the civics subject. Most schools and teachers have a positive attitude towards this subject. He also mentioned that if schools have any questions during the implementation process, they can contact the Education Bureau at any time. The Education Bureau is happy to Provide professional advice.

Yang Runxiong finally said frankly that when seeing many young students participating in illegal and violent activities in 2019, the SAR government has to admit that the education in the past was insufficient, and it is precisely based on reflection on the actual situation that it has decided to make some changes in different areas. He hopes that after the adjustment, Hong Kong's education can return to a system compatible with "one country, two systems". (over)
