The mayor (LR) of Metz (Moselle) announced the maintenance of the Christmas market this year, during a press conference in early September.

Several demonstrations had to be canceled last year, due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

But François Grosdidier absolutely wanted to keep the party going this year, especially since the cathedral is celebrating its 800 years, recalls Lorraine Actu.

“We do not have the means or the tradition of that of Strasbourg or the seniority of Colmar.

But we have the originality with the Path of the Lanterns and we want to cultivate the lights ”, indicated the elected official.

A projection on the cathedral

However, there is no question of seeing fireworks this year.

"The latter are still banned" explained the mayor, who mentioned other ideas such as light drones.

And for the 800th anniversary of the cathedral, the city intends to offer a projection of constellations on the building, but the mayor would like to go further by highlighting the “insufficiently known treasures” of the place.

The city is currently in discussions with the bishopric.
