In the Rhône Alpes-Auvergne region, 107 homophobic attacks have been recorded over the past year, according to figures from the SOS Homophobie association.

Faced with the resurgence of violence committed against LGBT + people, the cities of Lyon and Villeurbanne and the prefecture signed a charter on Wednesday in partnership with justice and national education.

A first in France.

The objective: to stop his attacks by fighting against stereotypes and by raising awareness among the general public.

A total of 52 actions will be taken, starting with prevention, from an early age.

If the teachers of the department will have to be trained on these questions so that they can "better detect violence", a large poster campaign against anti LGBT + hatred will soon be unveiled.

Still too many acts of violence and discrimination because of sexual orientation or gender identity are to be deplored.

State services will continue to fight against these crimes with unwavering determination!

Encourage complaints

The colorful posters, produced by artist Daniel Arzola, highlighting diversity in sexual orientation, gender expression and gender identity, will be displayed in public transport in Lyon. But also throughout the metropolis, from September 15 to 21, then from October 20 to 26.

The authorities also want to encourage the filing of complaints, which are very few.

“Since the start of 2021, only around ten complaints have been lodged in the Rhône,” recalls the Rhône prefecture.

A practical memo for the use of victims of assault and discrimination has been published.

It lists the steps to follow to file a complaint and benefit from psychological support.

It also includes the toll-free number of the LGBTI + Lyon center which can be reached on 0805 030 450 every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"This violence remains a phenomenon that is still poorly listed", concludes the prefecture.
