British actress and singer Jane Birkin has canceled her participation in the American Film Festival in Deauville, after recovering from a minor stroke, her family revealed.
The 74-year-old artist, partner and former muse of French singer Serge Gainsbourg, suffered a "minor stroke a few days ago", according to a family statement, explaining that Birkin is in good condition.
The artist was expected to participate in a dialogue session at the Deauville Festival, about the documentary "Jane" centered on her career, prepared by her daughter, Charlotte Gansburg.
Jane Birkin, born in London on December 14, 1946, is one of the most famous British artists in France, and her name remains associated with Gansburg and his songs in the sixties and seventies.
"When I see the French listening to these 40-year-old songs, I realize that they are part of their history, but also part of my own story," the artist wrote in her memoir, Monkey Dairis, published in 2018.
In her memoirs, she revealed that she had long suffered from leukemia, which she was diagnosed with in the late 1990s.
Birkin appeared in good health during her recent appearances, including during the Cannes festival last July, or the Francovoli music festival in La Rochelle (southwest of France) in the same month.
