Anthrax The 'zombie' bacteria that attacked Siberia in 2016
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Population and Territory has notified the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) a case of
anthrax
, which has affected a mare in the town of
Navalvillar de Pela
(Badajoz).
The Junta de Extremadura ensures that it has launched an
epidemiological surveillance plan
and has made an emergency order to the company Tragsatec to monitor all incidents that may occur as a result of this case.
Likewise, the
necessary
epidemiological surveys
are being carried out
to determine the scope of the situation.
This infection, caused by
bacillus anthracis
, affects a large number of species, although it presents
variable virulence and clinical symptoms
, being especially relevant due to its severity and incidence in herbivores.
At the moment, the Board
has not confirmed that there has been transmission to humans
.
A few days ago, the Animal Health service of the Junta de Extremadura had sent
five samples of animals suspected of suffering from anthrax
to the Central Laboratory of Animal Health (LACSA) of Santa Fe, in Granada.
The first case was detected on August 25
, when a horse from this Badajoz town was analyzed at the Cáceres Veterinary School.
The equine showed symptoms compatible with this infectious disease, which is caused by bacteria.
