Sun and degrees.

Since the beginning of the week, France has been affected by an episode of “remarkable” heat for the month of September, notes Météo-France.

After a "rotten" summer, very wet and little sunny, the meteorological establishment even recorded monthly temperature records in the west of the country.

For the third time in the history of measurements in September, the 30 ° C mark was exceeded in Brest in Brittany on Monday and should be again on Tuesday, which would be a first for this month.

“After the most severe heat wave since 2006 in Finistère in July, this astonishing summer of 2021 has a lot of late heat…” commented forecaster François Jobard on Twitter.

30 ° C could be reached on Monday and / or Tuesday at #Brest, which only happened twice in September (1961 on the 1st and 2020 on the 14th).

Up to 36 or 37 ° C Tuesday in the west of the country

Monthly records were also broken Monday in Morbihan, on the island of Groix (31.1 ° C, previous record 31 ° C in September 1929) or in Belle-Ile (30.5 ° C, previous record 29, 9 ° C in September 2004), or equaled as in the Landes at Biscarrosse with 36.5 ° C.

Tuesday, while the temperature could rise to 36 or 37 ° C in the west of the country, records should at least be approached in Nantes, Angoulême, Poitiers or La Rochelle and Limoges.

As for Paris, if the 30 ° C threshold is exceeded as expected four consecutive days, from Sunday to Wednesday, "it will be unheard of in September" since 1948, according to François Jobard.

"Tropical night" of Brittany in the South West

Some towns also experienced a “tropical night” from Monday to Tuesday, with temperatures not dropping below 20 ° C from southern Brittany to the southwest, forecaster Alexandre Flouttard noted on Twitter.

Minimum temperature records were also broken in Quimper (19 ° C) or Noirmoutier (20.3 ° C).

If after six very hot or even exceptional summers, France was spared this summer by heat waves, due to a so-called "cold drop" phenomenon linked to the withdrawal of the Azores high pressure on the Atlantic, it is not not the rest of Europe.

According to data from the European Copernicus service on climate change (C3S) published on Tuesday, the summer of 2021 was the hottest on record in Europe, just ahead of 2010 and 2018, with in particular record temperatures observed in August in Mediterranean countries.
