To play a World Cup for the very first time: this dream of the Malagasy seems to be coming to an end.

This September 7, 2021, the Barea have in any case chained a second defeat in qualifying for the

2022 World Cup

.

Five days after a loss at home against Benin (0-1), they lost 3-2 in Tanzania.

Tanzanians who opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 2nd minute by Erasto Nyoni, before Novatus Miroshi widened the gap in the 26th minute.

The proteges of Eric Rabésandratana then had the merit of not giving up.

They thus returned to 2-2 before the break, thanks to Njiva Rakotoharimalala (2-1, 36th) and Thomas Fointaine (2-2, 45th + 2).

But the Taifa Stars regained the ascendancy via Feisal Salum Abdallah (3-2, 53rd).

Thanks to this success, they positioned themselves in first place in Group J, pending their double confrontation against Benin in October.

The Malagasy, for their part, will play their game against the DR Congo, during the 3rd and 4th days of the qualifiers.

Absent from the next African Cup of Nations, the Madagascar team must win its next two matches if it does not want to fall back into the ordinary, after a sparkling CAN 2019.
