How does the school sports under the "double reduction" return to the campus

In accordance with the "Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Compulsory Education Students’ Homework and Off-campus Training" issued by the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council in July this year (hereinafter referred to as the "double reduction" policy), the new semester begins on September 1, Parents of elementary school students can choose to allow their children to accept the after-school service provided by the school until school ends at 5:30 pm. Sports activities are an important part of the after-school service provided by the school.

Industry experts said that the introduction of the "double reduction" policy is absolutely positive for sports, because it gives real time and space for the development of school sports.

Wang Zongping, Dean of the School of Physical Education of Yunnan University, said, “Sports should be added, whether it is to increase the class hours or increase the exercise intensity, I think there is a prerequisite, that is, to reduce the burden of the students' academic subjects. Because the time of the students is fixed. 、Energy is limited and sleep time must be guaranteed. If the burden of subjects cannot be reduced, it will be difficult for sports to be added."

Due to the heavy academic pressure of students, the phenomenon of occupancy of physical education classes has become commonplace. On this basis, if students want to increase physical activities, they can only make time for students. No wonder many parents say when they talk about physical examinations. This is to increase the burden on students.

For a long time, the country has issued many policies and documents on strengthening school sports, but the implementation is always not ideal. It is also related to the heavy academic burden of students and it is difficult for sports to compete with the main courses for students' time.

Wu Jian, director of the Institute of Sports, Health, and Arts of the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences, believes that some problems that arise in the growth and development of students, such as insufficient humanistic literacy, decline in physical fitness, etc., must be difficult to solve under the original background. In other words, it is not easy to be taken seriously, because objectively students do not have time and space to strengthen the development of these qualities.

The "double reduction" policy aims to effectively reduce the burden of excessive homework and off-campus training for students in the compulsory education stage, and promote the overall development and healthy growth of students.

For example, no written homework is left in the first and second grades of elementary school, the average time to complete written homework in the third to sixth grades of elementary school is no more than 60 minutes, and the average time to complete written homework in junior high school is no more than 90 minutes; all regions no longer approve new subjects for compulsory education students Class off-campus training institutions, existing subject training institutions are uniformly registered as non-profit institutions; after-school services carry out a variety of science, culture, art, labor, reading, interest groups and club activities, etc., which will fundamentally solve the problem of students The crux of the lack of time and energy to participate in sports activities.

However, although the "double reduction" policy has expanded the space for school sports, how to better help students cultivate sports interest and develop sports habits depends on what kind of sports activities the school can provide.

A reporter from China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily learned from some parents in Beijing that due to the large differences in school teachers, venues and other conditions, there is also a huge gap in the quality of sports after-school services provided by different schools.

A good school can provide students with dozens of options for after-school sports activities, which can basically meet the needs of all students to participate in different sports. There is more room for choice; due to the limited number of teachers, some schools have only a few students who can "grab" sports options for after-school services, and most students can only look forward to the class and sigh.

Some parents in these schools worry that the after-school service their children participate in is probably just sitting in the classroom doing nothing and spending a boring hour.

Wu Jian said, “Now that the policy is in place and the time and space are given, there will still be some problems in the implementation process. The more prominent ones are the problems of teachers and venues.”

According to the "Opinions on Comprehensively Strengthening and Improving School Physical Education in the New Era" issued by the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council in October last year, by 2022, there will be a full complement of strong physical education teachers and full physical education classes.

In fact, this also shows that there is a lack of physical education teachers in various levels of schools in our country.

Wang Zongping believes that according to the characteristics of school sports in the new era and the scale of students in school, the compulsory education stage should not be higher than the student-teacher ratio of 100:1, the high school student-teacher ratio of 200:1, and the higher school student-teacher ratio of 300:1.

Physical education teachers should be equipped according to this standard, and at the same time, the equal status of physical education teachers and teachers of other subjects should be restored.

Wu Jian believes that the professionalism of physical education and art teachers is relatively strong, and the after-school services launched by the school now focus on physical education and art courses, which will indeed exacerbate the problem of insufficient supply of physical education teachers.

Wu Jian suggested that through exploring the school's own potential (giving opportunities to teachers in other subjects who are interested in sports and capable of teaching, to bring sports activities), cooperating with social forces, exploring parental resources, and improving the quality of existing sports activities in the school, etc. , To a certain extent, can also help schools overcome the difficulties of insufficient physical education teachers and better carry out school physical activities.

Under the "double reduction" policy, subject training has been suppressed, and non-subject training has ushered in more room for development.

According to CCTV Finance and Economics, there are currently 370,000 art training-related enterprises and 660,000 sports training-related enterprises in China.

Since the "double reduction" policy was released, more than 33,000 companies related to the above two types of training have been added, an increase of 99% compared to the same period last year.

Non-disciplinary training, including sports, has exploded. However, experts suggest that non-disciplinary training should not pursue the maximization of economic benefits, while ignoring the background of the "double reduction" policy.

Wang Zongping said that the original intention of the state's "double reduction" policy is to relieve parents' anxiety, build a good education ecology, and promote the all-round development and healthy growth of students.

If non-disciplinary training, including sports, blindly pursues commercial interests and develops like many discipline training institutions in the past, with high tuition fees and anxiety, becoming a heavy financial burden for families, then non-disciplinary training will be in line with the spirit of the central government. Go in the opposite direction.

The reason why the "double reduction" policy leaves a lot of space for the development of non-disciplinary training, Wang Zongping believes that this is related to the lack of current non-disciplinary training capabilities in most schools and the need to rely on social forces, and it is also related to non-disciplinary training. Class training is directly related to the overall development and healthy growth of students, but it is by no means to turn non-disciplinary training into another discipline training. The state will never allow utilitarian thinking and anxiety to appear in non-disciplinary training again.

It is precisely to prevent non-disciplinary training from repeating the same mistakes of disciplinary training. Wang Zongping suggested that schools should become the main front for non-disciplinary training such as sports and art, and these educational tasks should not be blindly pushed to social training institutions. .

With the implementation of the "double reduction" policy, some parents also raised objections.

This part of parents believes that their children’s future advancement and future are still related to test scores. Even if the school reduces the burden on their children, as parents, they still adhere to the concept of test scores first and do not want their children to lose on the starting line.

Wang Zongping hopes that these parents can see the goal of "common prosperity" recently put forward by the country. "Common prosperity" will solve the problems of regional disparity, urban-rural disparity, industry disparity, income disparity, etc. This actually means the future of various industries and positions. The income gap between the two will not be too big.

So, why don't parents give their children a happy and healthy childhood?
