France is now on the right track.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized and those in critical care remained stable on Monday, according to figures published by Public Health France.

A positive result despite a slight increase

The number of hospitalized patients increased slightly, to 10,757 (against 10,644 on Sunday), with 661 patients admitted in the last 24 hours (against 227 the day before), but it has remained below the 11,000 mark since last Thursday.

Seven days earlier, there were 11,245 patients.

A result that remains positive despite everything.

On the side of critical care, which receives the most serious patients, a very slight increase was also recorded with 2,249 patients (against 2,217 the day before), including 187 admitted in the last 24 hours.

A week earlier, these services had 2,290 patients.

The coronavirus not completely eradicated

The number of cases detected in 24 hours amounted to 3,042, against 10,410 the day before, a difference which is explained by the closure of laboratories on weekends.

The positivity rate, which measures the proportion of positive cases in relation to the number of people tested, is stable at 2.4%, against 2.5%.

In 24 hours, 103 people were swept away by the Covid, bringing the total death toll to 115,007 since the start of the epidemic.

On the vaccination front, 49,198,166 people have received at least one injection (ie 73% of the total population) and 45,633,313 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (ie 67.7% of the total population).

The Delta threat

The Delta variant is tenacious.

Specialists insist that faced with this form of Covid-19, vaccination alone will not be enough, even if it remains essential.

Experts from the Institut Pasteur recalled on Monday the importance, even for vaccinated people, of "continuing to respect barrier gestures and wearing a mask to protect themselves from infection and avoid contaminating their loved ones".

"With the Delta variant, vaccinated people are well protected against hospitalization but still run the risk of being infected," they write in an updated version of their models on the rest of the epidemic.

The virus "could continue to cause substantial pressure on health systems in the absence of other control measures, even with high vaccination coverage," warn these specialists.
