While heavy gunfire rang out this Sunday morning in central Conakry, coup plotters claimed responsibility for the arrest of President Alpha Condé yesterday afternoon.

In a message broadcast on national radio and television, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya also announced the dissolution of institutions, the suspension of the Constitution as well as the creation of a National Committee for Recovery and Development.
