At the French Deauville Festival, Johnny Depp presented the movie "City of Lies", which deals with the investigation into the assassination of rapper "Notorius BIG", a work that "has been kidnapped for three years," according to the American actor.

"It is a great honor for me to be a guest here, and we are very proud of the film, which was kidnapped for three years because of people ... in Hollywood," the Hollywood star said in loose French.

For three years the movie was dead.

And now we have it back.”

This long tape, which was presented for the first time in France on Sunday and was produced in 2018, did not find a party to sponsor its distribution in cinemas.

"City of Lies" takes the viewer back to the nineties when two top American rappers, Tupac and Notorious BIG, were shot dead, in light of the fierce competition between the music circles on the West Coast and East Coast of the United States.

Detective Russell Paul (Johnny Depp) delves into the details of that incident 20 years after it occurred, when an alcoholic journalist (Forrest Whitaker) hired his services.

"City of Lies", which was presented in "Deauville" outside the framework of the official competition, and which mixes fictional scenes with some archive photos, shows an investigation carried out hastily by the corrupt police under the control of gangs.

The film, directed by Brad Forman, raises more questions than it answers about the circumstances of the murder at a time when the culprits in this case have never been found.

The 47th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival opened on the 3rd of September, and will conclude on the 11th of the month with a jury chaired by Charlotte Gansburg.
