The wooden furniture is old and not broken, the kitchen seasoning is complete, and the clothes and sheets are hanging on the balcony. This seemingly ordinary house actually has many differences: two ultraviolet killer lamps are placed in the corner of the living room, and three rooms live in different families. There are often more than 3 families cooking in the kitchen, and they have a common identity-the family of leukemia patients.

This is the "Xiaobai Station" on Linyin Street, Wuhou District, Chengdu. It is within a 15-minute walk of West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University.

As a home for patients with leukemia, it provides free temporary shelter and necessary daily necessities for leukemia patients and their families for no more than 15 days with the help of social caring people.

"The post is a place where families with leukemia hug together to keep warm. Our wish is that the first-time patients will not be confused, and the old patients will help when they encounter difficulties." said Hu Yumei, the founder of "Xiaobai Post", the post's operating funds mainly come from caring people and caring enterprises. Donation, the two sites were put into use in March and May this year. In addition to housing and daily necessities support, they will also provide nursing knowledge training for patients’ family members, help families in need to raise funds for medical treatment, organize team building activities to exchange experience, and relieve mood .

In addition to Hu Yumei, Ao Wu and Zhou Xiayang, the initiators of the "Xiaobai Station" project, are also relatives of leukemia patients.

"Leukemia treatment is a long process. Patients have relatively high requirements for living and eating conditions. Once someone in the family becomes ill, their family members will lead a three-point and one-line life in the hospital, rental house, and vegetable market." recalled her daughter Chang Chang. During the eight-year "anti-whitening road", Ao Wu said that he hopes to solve the difficulties and pain points encountered by patients during family visits as much as possible based on his own personal experience.

In September 2021, Alomarin from Leshan, Sichuan brought her 12-year-old daughter to the "Xiaobai Station" for a short stay for the third time.

Last year, his daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After 7 months of treatment and discharged from the hospital, she had to go to West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University for follow-up chemotherapy every month.

Alomarin said that each follow-up chemotherapy includes nucleic acid testing, routine blood tests, admission to the hospital and other steps, and it takes about 3 days. "Xiaobai Station" is where he stays after he travels from Leshan to Chengdu.

Qu Mu Shi Gu Mu, from Yibin, Sichuan, joined the WeChat group of patients created by Hu Yumei and others as early as 2018 because his youngest son was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, to share and learn about diagnosis, treatment, and nursing knowledge.

In May of this year, Qu Mu Shi Gu Mu's youngest son was not cured, and his eldest son, who was healthy, was diagnosed with purpuric nephritis.

Qu Mushi Gumu and his two children rushed around for several months and spent all his savings until he couldn't even pay the rent.

In desperation, she decided to take her two children back to her hometown.

"The child’s current situation is more complicated and there is a high risk of bringing it back to his hometown. If there is an emergency, it may be too late." After understanding the situation, the Hu Yumei team decided to break the rule that the "Xiaobai Station" should not live for more than 15 days. Give them a room to provide them with long-term accommodation, and find channels to help raise the cost of bone marrow transplantation.

Qu Mushi Gumu is full of gratitude. In her spare time, she often helps other patients to register in line, get acquainted with the hospital, and send blood samples.

After the patients leave the "Xiaobai Post", she will clean the sheets and wait for them to come to the post next time for chemotherapy.

"'Xiaobai Inn' is like home to me, and the patients help each other like relatives."

According to statistics, the two stations of "Xiaobai Station" have received more than 400 people, but this is far from meeting the needs of patients' families. The third "Xiaobai Station" in Chengdu has entered the stage of site selection.

In the next five years, the team plans to further expand to Guiyang, Kunming, Chongqing and other western cities, and expand to more provinces and cities in China with the Chengdu site completed.

"We hope to explore and improve at the same time, and make the station a sustainable and scalable model. In the future, the operation of the organization can be more professional." Although Hu Yumei has been exhausted after a busy day, she is still full of confidence in the future.

"I believe there are still more kind-hearted people in this world. Everyone works hard together, and there is no problem that can't be solved." (End)
