The shock of this second day of African qualifiers for the

2022 FIFA World Cup

turned to the advantage of Côte d'Ivoire.

The team led by the French Patrice Beaumelle was certainly not constant against Cameroon, this September 6, 2021 in Ebimpé.

But she was enterprising and successful enough to secure this precious victory in Group D of the qualifiers.

In front of the few thousand authorized spectators, and on a mediocre lawn, the Ivorians took the advantage in the 20th minute, thanks to a penalty from Sébastien Haller.

The striker took advantage of a free kick deflected by the arm of Cameroonian Vincent Aboubakar, to open the scoring (1-0).

Haller is then on the reception of a pass, delivered by Jean Evrard Kouassi.

The center forward crosses his shot well and thus doubles the bet: 2-0, 29th.

Ivorians are retreating too much

Even if they remain dangerous, the Elephants retreat too much afterwards.

This allows the Indomitable Lions to return, thanks to a penalty sanctioning a foot too lifted by Eric Bailly in his penalty area.

Nicolas Ngamaleu took the opportunity to reduce the score: 2-1, 63rd.

Patrice Beaumelle then multiplies the changes to breathe new life into his protégés.

These adjustments seem to bear fruit since the meeting is rebalanced and Jean Michaël Seri sends the ball to the crossbar, on a free kick (74th).

Christian Kouamé spoils a last ball of counter-attack with a lost duel against the opposing goalkeeper, Devis Epassy (86th).

The Ivorians pocket 3 points which allow them to take first place in Group D ahead of Cameroonians, pending the Malawi-Mozambique match scheduled for September 7, 2021.
