Born Fréderic Louis Sauser in 1887, the Swiss, naturalized French, wrote and rewrote his existence, as bubbling as the twentieth century he went through and left his mark, with his cheeky face, his legendary face à la Prévert and his rich and powerful verb.

Visionary poet, greedy author, fertile and a bit of a mythomaniac, Blaise Cendrars is the author of

"Bourlinguer"

,

"La prose du Transsibérien"

,

"Take me to the end of the world"

,

"Gold"

or

"The man struck down ”

. Novels, poems, founding stories, where ultimately what matters is not so much that he himself has traveled, but that he makes his reader travel.

In June 2021, sixty years after the death of Cendrars, the Festival

“Aux quatre coins du mot”

at La Charité-sur-Loire in France, honored the bourlingue and its brilliant “

inventor

”.

And on this occasion, we met the great French specialist

Claude Leroy as

well as

Bastien Mouchet

, two

“cendrarsians

”, unwavering lovers of the one who had, as Henri Michaux put it

, “the journey in the belly”.

A new episode of

“Compagnons de route”

, a radio series of portraits of traveling writers, in the footsteps of the most elusive of them.

By Céline Develay-Mazurelle and Laure Allary
