On Amami Oshima in Kagoshima Prefecture, which has been registered as a World Natural Heritage Site, it has been a problem that an exotic mongoose attacks rare wild animals, but it has not been captured for more than three years.

The Ministry of the Environment will issue a declaration of eradication as early as two years later.

Mongoose was brought to Amami Oshima about 40 years ago to reduce the highly poisonous hubs, but the country was hit by a series of rare wild animals such as the Amami rabbit, a national special natural monument. Has been eradicating it for about 20 years.

As a result, the mongoose, which is said to have been 10,000 at one time, was last captured in April 2018, and no one has been captured for more than 3 years, and sensors installed at 451 locations on the island It means that it has not been confirmed by the camera.

Regarding this, the Ministry of the Environment says, "It shows a decrease in mongoose and a decrease in population density, and the population is extremely low."

On the other hand, since we received nine sightings from residents last year, the Ministry of the Environment will continue to collect information with the aim of complete extermination, and will issue a declaration of eradication as early as two years later.
