While European countries no longer put in place deportation measures for Afghans, he fears the arrival of "millions of migrants attracted by a better situation" who have already left Afghanistan and who are today in neighboring countries.

But the Afghan crisis will cause, according to Fabrice Leggeri, "a progressive migratory pressure" unlike what happened in 2015 following the Syrian situation. 

The executive director of the European agency reviews the missions of Frontex in the fight against terrorism, which acts in particular by collecting personal data for investigation purposes.

Asked about the complaints filed against the agency which allegedly committed illegal refoulements - also called "pushback" - Fabrice Leggeri sweeps the accusations aside.

He asserts that there has been no violation of international law, and that it is in fact "maritime relief".
