Say goodbye to the "golden track"

  "It's my turn."

When called to the meeting room by the leader, Li Xiaoran suddenly had a foreboding that what would happen—in the meeting room, she accepted the layoff agreement handed over by the personnel, signed the letter, packed up and left the ten-month education and training institution. The process only takes 1 hour.

At the end of August, the operating department of Li Xiaoran's education and training institution laid off half of its employees.

On July 24, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Further Reducing the Work Burden of Students in Compulsory Education and the Burden of Off-campus Training" (hereinafter referred to as "double reduction"), which clearly stipulated that "disciplinary training institutions shall be uniform No listing for financing is allowed, and capitalized operation is strictly prohibited; off-campus training institutions shall not occupy national statutory holidays, rest days and winter and summer vacations to organize discipline training." As the "double reduction" policy enters the practical stage, it takes less than one month The reporter saw in the buildings where many education and training institutions are located near Huangzhuang, Haidian, Beijing.

According to data from a recruitment platform, 51.4% of the original practitioners in the education and training industry who applied for a job in July this year have already left their jobs.

In the past 10 years, with the influx of Internet technology and capital into the education and training industry, "unicorn" companies have emerged one after another, and the tide of listing and financing of education companies has been advancing, and the education and training industry was once labeled a "golden track".

After graduating from university in 2011, a student majoring in biochemistry joined a well-known national discipline training institution as a chemistry teacher. At that time, he still felt that this was a “professional career that I am embarrassed to introduce to others”.

In the past 10 years in the industry, as a famous teacher, he has gradually accumulated an excellent reputation among parents and students. Around 2018, he can take about 700 students in a summer offline course.

Wen Dao recalled that at the beginning of this year, major training institutions were rapidly expanding and propagating, and even some educational institutions were also one of the sponsors of CCTV Spring Festival Gala, appearing on TV screens and host broadcasts many times.

Many young people come here especially when the industry is brilliant.

In 2018, Li Xiaoran was recruited into a leading education and training institution as an "operation management trainee". She had studied education in a prestigious domestic school. Most of the students went to colleges, state-owned enterprises or government agencies for employment. In the teaching and training industry, she became the one with the highest salary among her classmates.

Xiaoyu used to be a director of a well-known media. A year ago, she chose to switch to an online education institution to work as a director of animation courses.

"The industry was so hot at the time. A friend had achieved a very famous position in the industry. He told me that you have to follow the big era, and then I followed the'pulse of the era'."

Today, the "double reduction" policy has put a sharp brake on the education and training industry.

"Many people are in a Mongolian state." Wen Dao said.

Sudden changes have forced practitioners to stand at a crossroads in life.

Wen Dao admits that there are some chaos in the education and training industry, which also encourages useless "involution". "In the eyes of our insiders, it is actually very necessary to rectify the education and training industry." Li Xiaoran felt that "double reduction" is For the sustainable development of the education industry, the interests of a small group of people have been "sacrificed".

But when she was a member of this group, she still found it difficult.

Tang Xiaojuan, who once worked for a children's English training organization, decided to leave the industry completely after being laid off.

I recalled that when I first started working, I worked overtime until 10 pm on the first day. "At that time, it was at the time of the education and training industry, and the work pressure was relatively high. In those two years, I was particularly anxious, insomnia throughout the night, and depression. I needed to go to the hospital. Medicine can be relieved.” She is about to 30 years old this year and plans to do some work related to her hobbies, such as “carrying goods” for skiing supplies on social media and becoming a “slash youth”.

Having lost a high-paying job in the education and training industry, Xiaoyu plans to move out of the high-rent community near the company as soon as possible.

The experience in the education and training industry changed her mind. She chose to say goodbye to the "pulse of the times" for the time being and stop her rushing pace.

"It's too difficult to step on the air vent, so why not stop and take a look."

Wen Dao still hasn’t decided which road he will take in the future. When he came out of the company he had worked for for many years, many professions flashed in his mind. , But I haven’t started to look for it yet.” In the window period after leaving his job, he sometimes writes scripts and records some short videos to explain high school chemistry knowledge points to viewers on the Internet. “I just don’t want to throw this knowledge away. In the future, you can tell your children that Dad used to be a teacher and he can still bring something out."

Li Xiaoran doesn't have much free time. She set herself a goal to find a new job before October this year.

Now she submits more than a dozen resumes every day, studies English to prepare for the TOEFL test, and is also doing some part-time jobs.

In one week, she participated in the interviews of 5 companies. One of the publishing houses had a marketing position that met her expectations. She is currently preparing for the next round of interviews.

A few days ago, Beijing's first recruitment fair for talents in the education and training industry was held online, and nearly 300 companies launched more than 3,000 positions.

It is understood that the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau will organize a "special service season for talents in the education and training industry" with a duration of 3 months to half a year throughout the city to help talents in the education and training industry find employment.

On September 1, primary and secondary schools in various regions opened. Students who had been "scrambled" by major teaching and training institutions returned to the campus, starting the first semester after the "double reduction".

For people who have left the education and training industry, the "golden track" is in the past, and they have to move towards the "new semester" of life.
