The French obviously wanted to see marmots, mouflons and chamois this summer. The mountain resorts have recorded an increase in attendance and draw "an overall positive balance" from these summer vacations. "Compared to 2020, the occupancy rate increased by 7.3% over the entire summer period", despite mixed weather, estimates the specialist firm G2A, mandated by the National Association of Mayors mountain resorts (ANMSM) which states in its press release that attendance is "satisfactory". The occupancy rate is that of 400,000 commercial beds (hotels, residences, agencies) and those rented from individuals to individuals.

"In terms of attendance, the Pyrenees boost the average (+ 20.9%), driven by the revival of hydrotherapy", it is specified.

That of the Northern Alps (+ 5.4%) and the Southern Alps (+ 4.6%) is more limited.

It was the small resorts and those in the middle of the mountains that were more attractive with an increase in attendance of 7.3% for resorts located between 620 and 1,250 m above sea level and + 5.1% for those between 1,300 and 1,650 m .

Attendance at stations with less than 5,000 beds increased by 13.3%.

Neither the weather nor the health pass slowed down the French

This summer was notably marked by a new outbreak of covid-19 cases and the implementation of the health pass to access certain establishments, such as restaurants.

“After a particularly promising start to the season, reservations have slowed down, due to the weather and the introduction of the health pass during the summer.

The French, however, responded present and confirmed their enthusiasm for the mountains ”, welcomes the president of the ANMSM, Jean-Luc Bloch, quoted in a press release.

The winter season 2020-2021, during which the ski lifts had been closed due to the health crisis, had led to a "free fall" in winter tourism, the ANMSM had deplored in March.
