Harvesting of a specialty taro called "Imonoko" has begun in Yokote City, Akita Prefecture.

In the Yamauchi district of Yokote City, the cultivation of taro, which has a unique stickiness called "Imonoko", is flourishing, and now it is time to harvest the taro seeds.

Of these, in the field of Yuichi Ohara (60), which is 10 ares in size, harvesting began on the 1st.

The field is overgrown with leaves that have grown to a height of about 1 meter from the seed potatoes, and Mr. Ohara cut the stems from the roots with a sickle, then dug up the soil with a tractor, and about 20 pieces were lined up. I harvested "Imonoko".

Then, when I brought it to the agricultural house, I took off the "Imonoko" one by one and divided them according to size.

According to Mr. Ohara, this is because there was little rain in July when the potatoes grew, so there are many small ones, but the taste and stickiness are as usual.

Mr. Ohara said, "The stickiness and softness are the same as usual, so I want everyone to eat a lot."

The harvest of "Imonoko" will continue until around the beginning of November.

On the other hand, the "Imonoko Festival", an event where you can taste "Imonoko Juice", which is held every year in the Yamauchi district around mid-September, has been decided to be canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus.
