ABBA music comes to TikTok with the announcement of new songs after 40 years
40 years after their last studio album, legendary Swedish pop band
ABBA
announced on Thursday the release of
a new album
and an upcoming show featuring holograms of its now septuagenarian members.
"It started with two songs and then we asked ourselves, why not make an entire album," explained two of the group's members,
Björn Ulvaeus
and
Benny Andersson
, at an event broadcast on the internet from London.
The group has sold
tens of millions of albums
in the last half century, made the world dance, and marked the disco years with their catchy tunes, lush clothing, and kitschy videos.
With its
eight albums
and some 40 singles, ABBA went from being a small Swedish band to a legendary group that has survived all fashions.
The members of ABBA - an acronym for the first names of its members - are now all septuagenarians: Anni-Frid Lyngstad (75), Agnetha Fältskog (71), Björn Ulvaeus (76) and Benny Andersson (74).
For a time they formed two glamorous couples, but now they are divorced.
