Recently, the battle for ecological protection and restoration of the Yangtze River has achieved remarkable results.

On September 1, Vice Minister of Finance Xu Hongcai introduced at the regular policy briefing of the State Council Information Office that from 2018 to 2021, the central government allocated 18.3 billion yuan to support the development of agricultural non-point source pollution control and rural life in the relevant provinces of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Sewage, garbage and black and odorous water bodies should be treated to speed up the shortcomings of rural ecological environment construction.

In 2020, the proportion of sections with good water quality in the Yangtze River Basin will reach 96.7%, which is 13.3 percentage points higher than the national average.

The populations of endangered wild animals and plants, such as giant pandas, crested ibis, and Chinese alligators, are rising steadily.

The frequency of occurrence of Yangtze finless porpoise populations in some sections of the Yangtze River has increased significantly, with large populations reaching more than 60. Rare species that have disappeared for many years in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River have reappeared.
