[Commentary] Recently, Wu Rongyuan, chairman of the Taiwan Labor Party, accepted an exclusive interview with China News Agency "Focus on China" in Beijing.
Wu Rongyuan pointed out that Taiwan has recently been suffering from the epidemic, and the people are in urgent need of vaccines and other supplies. However, the DPP authorities refused to provide aid from the mainland and continued the old Cold War “anti-communist” and “demonizing the mainland” stance. This also caused the “Taiwan independence” forces. The inherent "anti-people" and "anti-national" characters are exposed to the world.

Fighting the new crown epidemic is a struggle between man and nature, involving urgent and large-scale life assistance, and it is a manifestation of the value of human civilization.
And the anti-epidemic process in the Taiwan region has allowed many intellectuals on the island to once again see the "progress" disguised by the DPP for a long time with a "democracy mask."
[Explanation] Wu Rongyuan said that after the DPP came to power in 2016, it refused to recognize the "92 Consensus" and continuously challenged and undermined the historical facts and legal principles of one China, causing cross-strait relations to once again fall into a deadlock.
In his view, lifting the confrontation and increasing exchanges between the two sides of the strait are urgent tasks nowadays.

The United States is playing the "Taiwan card" and the DPP authorities have cooperated more blatantly, making the cross-strait situation more severe and complicated.
I hope that the DPP authorities will clearly return to the "92 Consensus" position and attitude.
After all, both sides of the strait are compatriots who are connected by blood and share a common destiny. The Chinese belong to one China. They should work together for the welfare of the people and the peaceful development of society, and no more obstacles to cross-strait exchanges should be set up.
[Commentary] Wu Rongyuan stated that from 2008 to 2016, the two sides of the strait opened the peaceful development of cross-strait relations on the political basis of the "92 Consensus".
"Cross-Strait cooperation will benefit both sides" is an objective reality. In recent years, Taiwan’s exports to the mainland have exceeded approximately US$100 billion per year. The two sides of the Strait have already formed close-dependent economic and trade relations, which require a larger environment for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

Through the peaceful development of both sides of the strait, Taiwan can cooperate with the mainland for economic development such as the "Belt and Road" initiative, so that it can not only rely on the mainland's vast market hinterland, but also through the mainland to enter the world market.
At the same time, cross-strait economic two-way exchanges will also promote cross-strait exchanges. This process will not only bring benefits to labor, but also create favorable conditions for peaceful reunification.
Only in a strong motherland can Taiwan’s hardworking masses be free from deprivation and oppression. We will also actively consider the status of Taiwan’s labor under the "one country, two systems" and continue to promote fairness and justice in Taiwan’s society.
