Salem Khalid Al Qasimi appointed as Permanent Representative of the UAE to UNESCO

Under the decree of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, the Ministry of Culture and Youth announced the appointment of the Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for the Heritage and Arts Sector, Salem Khalid Abdullah Al Qasimi, as the UAE's permanent representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The Minister of Culture and Youth, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, said that "Salem Al Qasimi has extensive experience, and his appointment as a permanent representative of the state will contribute to strengthening the bonds of cooperation between the UAE and the organization, and will positively affect the strategic role played by the state in the various fields of the organization's work."

She added that "the appointment of Salem Al Qasimi to this position, based on the decision of the Council of Ministers, pursuant to the decree of His Highness the President of the State, will contribute to strengthening the status of the state, highlighting its efforts in international organizations and institutions, and will highlight the leadership role that the state plays in leading and supporting strategic initiatives and projects in The fields of education, culture, science, and the protection and preservation of heritage, not only at the regional level, but also at the global level, through many joint projects that contribute to strengthening human cooperation and cultural convergence based on tolerance, openness and joint cooperation.

Noura Al Kaabi pointed out that "the UAE has a track record of cooperation with UNESCO in many fields, as the UAE is one of the largest donor countries to UNESCO, in addition to having implemented and implements many prominent strategic initiatives and projects in the field of education, culture and science, as a contribution to dedicating The visions and goals from which these projects are based.

For his part, Salem Al Qasimi said, “Our relationship in the UAE with UNESCO is based on solid foundations of participation and cooperation, with the aim of reaching a global strategic dialogue on issues of common interest, in the fields of culture, science, education and heritage, which will contribute to strengthening international cooperation ties and bonds. in the various fields of work of the organization.

He pointed to the projects in which the UAE has provided support to UNESCO, including the "Revive the Spirit of Mosul" project and the initiatives that emerged from it, such as the reconstruction of the Al-Nuri Mosque in Mosul and its Al-Hadba minaret, as well as the reconstruction of the two churches of Tahira and Al-Sa'a, in addition to funds that benefited many countries of the world. Salem Al Qasimi has long experience in several fields, most notably environmental policies, cultural management and city planning.
