More than 700 households in Finistère were deprived of an Internet connection and a landline phone because of a copper theft committed last week.

It was in Brennilis that it all started, with a cut that occurred during the night of Tuesday 24 to Wednesday 25 August, reports France 3 Bretagne.

Then the inhabitants of Landeleau and Plounéour-Menez were also affected.

No more card payment

The network was only restored five days after the events in Landeleau, the mayor of the town told the regional channel.

Merchants were thus forced to do without payment by bank card.

The doctor's office also had difficulty communicating with patients.

In Plounéour-Menez, restaurant owners complain that they cannot take reservations.

The repairs were to be completed on Tuesday, according to an Orange official interviewed by France 3. The operator filed a complaint and an investigation was opened.

In Brittany, 10,000 meters of cable would have been replaced in a year and a half after thefts.
