Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has defended the change of course in the Free State's corona policy.

In view of the high vaccination rate, one can no longer stubbornly stick to old concepts, said Söder on Wednesday in a government statement in the state parliament.

The new strategy now means a right balance between more freedom and personal responsibility - but also further protection and security.

"We still have a firewall against Corona." Söder ruled out a new lockdown again.

"There is no longer any need for a lockdown and there will be no more lockdown."

The cabinet had decided on Tuesday the new anti-corona rules, which should come into force this Thursday.

The FFP2 mask requirement, the general contact restrictions, but also the curfew in gastronomy and customer restrictions in retail are no longer applicable.

Changing classes in schools should be a thing of the past.

The rules will be relaxed for cultural, sporting events, trade fairs and church services, and clubs and discos will be allowed to open in October.

The 3G rule applies indoors - access only for vaccinated, convalescent or negative tested people.

And: Instead of the seven-day incidence, only the clinic occupancy should be the reason for stricter anti-corona measures.
