The investigation against the three men from Solingen, Wesseling and Krefeld began when they were racing in their high-powered sports cars on a motorway through Düsseldorf in mid-March. A witness was able to report in great detail how the drivers of an Audi R8, a Mercedes AMG and a BMW M3 suddenly formed up in front of him on the three lanes for a drag race. The drivers overtook themselves and other road users in extremely dangerous and reckless maneuvers. The three of them also rushed through the tunnel under the Düsseldorf university campus - where the tempo is 80 - extremely high.

Because they were filmed by surveillance cameras, the Düsseldorf traffic investigators immediately had a first hot lead. Commissioner Vanity came to their rescue: the officials found that the young men were bragging about their frenzy on social media. Finally, they also came across a selfie speeder video. The film was shot by one of the suspects on Autobahn 3 near Leverkusen - at 305 km / h. There the speed is limited to 120 kilometers per hour.

During the raid on Tuesday morning, not only two of the three cars, but also numerous data carriers, were secured. So it is quite possible that the investigators will come across more self-accusations. The drivers' licenses of the speeders have been temporarily withdrawn. They are being investigated for participating in prohibited motor vehicle races. According to Section 315d of the Criminal Code, the three men aged 22 and 23 face a sentence of up to five years in prison.
