It squeaked for almost an hour but it was over for the Senegal team's debut in qualifying for the

2022 FIFA World Cup

.

The Senegalese beat the applied Togolese, this September 1, 2021 in Thiès, at the end of the first meeting of the group H.

This time, the vice-champions of Africa could not justify their first mixed period by the lawn of Stade Lat-Dior.

It was indeed in much better condition than during the friendly matches in June.

Sadio Mané unblocks the situation

The Lions were especially very clumsy in the offensive sector, like this duel lost by Boulaye Dia against the goalkeeper Malcolm Barcola and then Sadio Mané's unframed strike that followed.

Fortunately for Aliou Cissé and his players, Dia and Mané caught up in the second half.

In the 56th minute, of a one-two, Dia serves in withdrawal Mané.

The latter directs the ball of a control before sliding it into the opposing net: 1-0.

In the 81st minute, defender Abdou Diallo gave air to his team by doubling the bet with a half volley at close range: 2-0, final score.

Togolese are now waiting for Namibia

Big disappointment for the Togolese coached by Paulo Costa.

They were certainly dominated but were combative and even threatening, as on this shot by Gilles Sunu whose race ended in the small outside net.

The Hawks will try to start their qualifiers on September 5 in Lomé against Namibia.

The Senegalese selection, it will want to capitalize on this first success, September 7 in Brazzaville against Congo.
