The panda bear brothers Pit and Paule from the Berlin Zoo turned two years old on Tuesday.

The bamboo cake, refined with apples and sweet potatoes, was only enjoyed by Paule and Mama Meng Meng.

The hustle and bustle seemed to be too much for Pit: he climbed a tree and watched the small celebration from above.

According to the zoo spokeswoman, Paule is the cheekier of the two anyway.

Paule also cracked the "2" that came with the cake made of ice.

When they were born, the panda twins Pit and Paule weighed just as much as a bar of chocolate, now they each weigh around 65 kilos.

The first panda birth in a German zoo on August 31, 2019 was a sensation.

Pandas are not only loners, but also downright sex grouches.

There is only a chance of newcomers on around three days a year.

It had never worked out in Berlin before.

Today the only giant pandas in Germany live here - now four.

The bear brothers were officially given the Chinese names Meng Yuan and Meng Xiang.

That means fulfilled dream and longed-for dream.

But the zoo keepers have simplified things in the Berlin tradition.

They named the two Pit and Paule.

The bear brothers only have contact with their mother Meng Meng.

Papa Jiao Qing lives in a separate enclosure.

It is also common in the wild that only the mothers are responsible for raising the young, said Sperling.

Pit and Paule have their most active time in the morning.

“Otherwise they spend the day sleeping, eating and playing, either outside in the outdoor area or inside in the cool indoor area,” says Sperling.

How long the bear brothers will stay in the Berlin zoo, she cannot say yet, the spokeswoman said.
