In order to prevent traffic accidents when going to and from school, an initiative has begun in Okagaki Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, to make the school roads stand out by color paving and to alert drivers.

In June, a truck crashed into a line of elementary school students in Yachimata City, Chiba Prefecture, killing and injuring five elementary school students, and measures are being taken nationwide to prevent traffic accidents when children go to and leave school.

In Okagaki Town, the school roads for elementary and junior high schools were previously paved in color, but now that they are almost invisible, repaving work has been carried out since the 30th.

The road to be repaved is about 340 meters from Yoshiki Elementary School and Okagaki Junior High School, and there is no sidewalk even though the road is narrow.

On the 30th, workers worked to draw a white line between the roadside belt and the road where the children pass.

After the 31st, the roadside belt will be painted green, which is expected to be completed by September 2.

In Okagaki Town, we will continue to inspect the school roads and pave them in color where necessary.

Mr. Osamu Kurita, Chief of the Okagaki Town Urban Construction Division, said, "I would like to take measures so that children can safely go to and leave school."
