• The new start of the school year under the sign of Covid-19 implies novelties for schools.

In the nursery and primary canteens, the city of Nice will install CO2 sensors to manage the ventilation of the rooms.

  • In middle and high schools, it will be possible to get vaccinated during an outing to a vaccination center or thanks to a mobile team of health professionals, depending on the demand of those registered for this possibility.

  • The start of the school year in the Nice Academy is also a novelty in terms of security, with personnel deployed to consolidate the plan to fight against harassment and attacks on the values of the Republic, among others.

In addition to the specificities related to the Covid-19 epidemic, some new features are expected for this year 2021-2022 at the level of national education.

Here are the big changes to note in the academy of Nice.

At the level of the health protocol

"Covid sensors" will be installed in the 173 nursery and primary canteens by All Saints' Day to "measure the concentration of CO2 and thus manage the ventilation of rooms," said the town hall of Nice.

The older ones, from 12 to 17 years old, will have the possibility to be vaccinated with their establishment, with parental authorization.

Depending on the number of registrants, an outing will be organized in a center located less than ten minutes away or a mobile team of health professionals will travel to perform the injections.

"There are still 50% of students to be vaccinated, which corresponds to 30,000 children," said the rector of the academy Richard Laganier.

The goal is to start from the first week of school and finish at the end of the month.

In terms of the safety of students and staff

As part of the action plan around protection and security, four teams will be deployed to better respond to the issues of harassment or attacks on the values of the Republic in the academy's establishments.

"They will follow up on reports and provide a rapid response to any outbreak of conflict", communicates the rectorate.

Richard Laganier also added that in parallel, a partnership with lawyers had been signed to help staff facing violence, as well as with public prosecutors for the complaints filed.

In terms of teaching

Five high schools in priority areas are now part of a support program in connection with Sciences Po Paris for "better equality of opportunity". In priority education colleges, work will be done to promote the languages and cultures of antiquity around the Mediterranean. The idea is to cross regional languages with ancient or living languages. In addition to this optional teaching of ancient culture, the academy offers in the less favored establishments, an enriched offer of training. There will, for example, be the establishment of classes with flexible hours, in particular for music, dance or even the theater, but also the creation of sports sections as well as bilingual classes.

Another novelty, "physical education, practice and sport culture" appears as a new specialty at the baccalaureate and is offered in particular at the Lycée Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
