Visiting Saint-Nazaire on Saturday on the site of the first maritime wind farm in France, the Prime Minister confirmed the government's wish to launch a new wind farm project in Normandy, alongside the existing project located off Barfleur (Manche ), east of Cherbourg.

"There was a public debate, which was conducted in Normandy in 2019 and in 2020, which made it possible to identify an area off Barfleur, 32 km from the coast," explains Jean Castex's entourage, explaining that the government now wanted "to study an extension of this first project, in the same area, right next door", with the aim of "pooling certain equipment and in particular the connection".

A referral to the CNDP (National Commission for Public Debate) is planned "in the coming days" concerning this new offshore wind farm project, the same source indicates.

France is very late in the development of offshore wind farms.

The first operational will be the one called Saint-Nazaire, off Croisic (Loire-Atlantique) in 2022. It will include 80 wind turbines which will supply the equivalent of 20% of the electricity consumption of Loire-Atlantique.
