The brand launches its fall-winter 2021 collection

Paul Smith: Classic men's fashion that meets the aspirations of the new generation

Renowned British fashion designer Sir Paul Smith spent long periods of time reflecting on the year 2020, which saw the brand celebrate its 50th anniversary, and the imposed lockdowns that followed.

But 2021 brought an opportunity to prepare and launch again with a renewed creative approach, resulting in an innovative blend inspired by Paul Smith's classics.

Key pieces in the collection reflect the influence of the subcultures that have accompanied Smith's creativity throughout his career over five decades. Cross strips inspired by the ska atmosphere of the 1970s, especially the outfits of singer Terry Hall and his band The Special; The new romantic touches of '80s style are highlighted by asymmetrical wool jackets, sheepskin jackets and modern models of midi and functional jackets. The mohair blends punk culture and college fashion, reinventing the stripes the designer has always been known for. The collection also includes silk pajamas inspired by the visual arts of the Seventies, and the trend towards working from home that characterizes the lifestyle in 2021. The designer has coordinated these options to create a selection of the best classic versions with a modern vision that meets the aspirations of the new generation.

Rich shades of winter green, lilac and brown with refreshing touches of yellow, orange and pink dominate the colors used in the collection, and floral motifs add a soft feel that matches the character of military jackets and oversized boots. Drawing from his exceptional talent for employing floral prints in men's clothing, Smith continues his creativity in decorating leather and woven fabrics with 3D graphics. The collection also flaunts the designer's famous paisley prints, while the Hawaiian-inspired graphics design the shirts that Smith introduced at his first Nottingham store 50 years ago.

Selected by Ben Grimes, the Paul Smith-passionate models, each with an independent personality and a different interest, embody the contemporary features of the Maison's clients.

Coordinating the collection was assisted by Julian Gagnot, who inherited a rich archive of the designer's creations that belonged to his father, a loyal friend and client of Paul Smith.

While director George Harvey excelled in documenting the show in a stunning film, accompanied by a musical anthology that brought together many creative styles of various periods, shaped and blended within a new artistic context.
