[Explanation] On the "Cunchi" sand painting stage, Shandong "post-80s" sand painter Sun Qijuan is using a pair of slender hands to spread sand, rub sand, and blow sand. Live characters such as epidemic doctors, volunteers, etc. emerge vividly.

It's hard to tell from the outside that she was actually a deaf and mute person who was born in 1983, living in a silent world.

Since being exposed to sand painting in early 2010, Sun Qijuan has used sand painting to depict the world in her eyes for 11 consecutive years.

[Explanation] On August 26, the reporter saw at Sun Qijuan's home that her sand painting platform was placed on the narrow balcony, which was a bit simple.

Sun Qijuan is usually here to practice sand painting skills day and night.

Affected by the epidemic, she has created anti-epidemic sand paintings at home since last year, and also hopes that the epidemic will end soon.

I am Sun Qijuan, a sand painter.

In January 2020, the epidemic in our country (emergence) began, all were closed, and there was no work.

Painting anti-epidemic works at home, (sometimes) painting for three hours (without stopping).

[Commentary] Speaking of her hearing impairment, Sun Qijuan appeared very calm.

When she was 8 months old, she suffered from pneumonia and had a high fever and was not treated in time, which led to deafness in both ears. Since then, her world has become "silent".

At the age of three or four, Sun Qijuan began to learn about painting.

Later, she successfully passed an art secondary school.

In 2007, she had the honor to go to Shandong University of Arts for one and a half years of advanced studies, specializing in meticulous painting.

These experiences laid the foundation for her to embark on the road of sand painting creation.

(At the end of 2009) By chance, I saw information about the recruitment of sand painting (teacher) in the newspaper.

[Explanation] In order to make money to supplement the family, Sun Qijuan, who was at home in his spare time, successfully applied for a company in Beijing in early 2010 and began to formally contact and learn sand painting.

After continuous efforts, she became a sand painter and rushed to perform sand paintings all over China.

Due to her hearing impairment, how to keep up with the rhythm of the background music in the sand painting performance has become a difficult problem for her to overcome.

When I first stepped onto the stage, I couldn't hear the sound of music.

My mother will give me a signal (using mobile phone) and I will know the show has started.

When I receive sand painting activities, I will read a lot of books, check computer information, add my own ideas, and make a sample of sand painting.

[Explanation] In this way, with the help of her mother, Sun Qijuan overcame her hearing impairment at the sand painting performance site, and was able to keep up with the rhythm of the background music and quickly adjust her technique.

Although each sand painting performance only takes ten minutes, Sun Qijuan will spend a lot of time in advance to read books, design creativity, figure out the image of characters, and integrate his painting skills into the sand painting creation, with delicate emotions and cultural connotations, thus Formed his own style.

[Explanation] In addition to paintings and sand paintings, Sun Qijuan also draws snuff bottle paintings, which are loved by people around him.

For Sun Qijuan, her father died of illness in 2011, and her elderly mother became her only relative.

In 2016, Sun Qijuan entered the marriage palace.

Now, Sun Qijuan has a cute baby over 1 year old.

Her biggest wish now is to continue to engage in the sand painting industry, to support this family, and to contribute her meager efforts to help others and give back to the society.

In the next step, I want to teach more people what I have learned so that more disabled friends can have skills.
