Fourteen dead on the roads of Gironde since July 1.

That is to say practically a third of the 47 fatal accidents in the department since the beginning of the year.

The Gironde prefecture warns this Friday about an increase in road accidents, and calls for "greater caution and a collective awareness to respect the rules of the Highway Code and respect other users.

"

Since the start of the year, "half of the victims of these fatal accidents have been vulnerable users (pedestrians, cyclists, motorized two-wheelers)" specifies the prefecture.

She also adds that half of them happened "solo" without a third party involved: 14 killed in light vehicles, 6 in motorcycles, 3 in utility vehicles.

Sharp increase in bodily accidents since the last deconfinement

With nearly 1,000 injured since the start of the year and a sharp increase in bodily accidents since the last deconfinement (+ 20% compared to May), the Gironde has found indicators comparable to the last years before 2020.

Faced with these “human tragedies”, the prefect Fabienne Buccio warns “that no tolerance will be granted to dangerous drivers.
