Don't get too cocky now.

For the first time in more than 15 years, the SPD is just ahead of, or at least on a par with the Union in surveys.

When Olaf Scholz speaks at an event that he wants to become the next Chancellor, at least that is not completely unrealistic.

What does the small success do with a party like the SPD, which has only experienced one thing for 15 years with a few exceptions: losing.

Decline.

Less members and less money.

A party that worked like a pseudo giant for years: in the federal government, but the results continued to shrink, the party seemed to be disappearing.

A party that has worn out seven chairmen in this time, which has worn itself out.

Who knew little else than quarrel.

In the FAZ podcast for Germany today we want to understand how the SPD was able to become successful again.

On the way, for example, she dealt with her mistakes from 2017 quite relentlessly, we talk to the freelance journalist Horand Knaup, who was on the commission.

We look at Olaf Scholz, who planned his candidacy long in advance, and accompany him during the election campaign.

Talk to the SPD member of the Bundestag Andreas Rimkus, who is now feeling the awakening through the polls - and for the first time has a real chance of being directly elected to the Bundestag.
