According to an in-house survey by Japan Post, a former director in his 60s who worked at the Nagasaki Sumiyoshi Post Office in Nagasaki City told his acquaintances that he had a special savings with a good interest rate. It has been revealed that over the 25 years until January, a total of more than 1.24 billion yen was deceived from 62 people including acquaintances and customers.



Regarding this, Japan Post has decided to reduce 30% of the monthly remuneration for President Kinukawa by three months, saying that the period of fraud is long, the damage is large and the supervisory responsibility is heavy.



In addition, the successor to the former director and two directors of neighboring post offices were suspended or reduced in salary because they were accepting cash withdrawals from the customer's account in a way that did not comply with the rules of Japan Post. Six executives, including the branch president and vice president of the Kyushu branch office, who were in the position of supervision, and eight people, including the section chiefs and deputy section chiefs of these post offices, were also suspended, reduced salaries, and admonished.



Japan Post says, "We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the victims. We take this situation seriously and strive to prevent recurrence and ensure thorough compliance."
