Xinhua News Agency, Chongqing, August 27 (Reporter Zhou Wentao) The People's Court of Jiangjin District, Chongqing City recently sentenced a case of illegal fishing in a national nature reserve. The three defendants have repeatedly visited the national nature reserve of rare and endemic fish in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Electric fishing, a total of about 250 kg of various types of freshwater fish were caught, and the court was sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 2 years and 1 month to 1 year and 7 months for the crime of illegal fishing of aquatic products, and confiscated the tools of the crime.

  The court found that in late January 2020, the defendants Luo, Cheng, and Gong conspired to purchase a set of electric fishing tools.

From January to March of the same year, three people drove motor boats to the waters of the Yangtze River in Zhiping Town, Jiangjin District. They carried out electric fishing many times and caught various freshwater fish totaling about 250 kilograms.

After investigation, the above-mentioned crime water area is located in the national nature reserve of rare and endemic fish in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

  The court found that the defendants Luo, Cheng, and Gong violated the laws and regulations on the protection of aquatic resources, and their actions constituted the crime of illegal fishing of aquatic products.

The three defendants committed crimes during the spawning and breeding season of wild fish, which caused serious damage to the ecological environment in the key waters of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Probation should not be applied. Therefore, the above judgment was made in accordance with the law.
