Twenty years after the fire in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo, where 44 people died, the Tokyo Fire Department conducted an on-site inspection of the multi-tenant building in Kabukicho on the night of the 27th to see if an evacuation route was secured. I confirmed.

On the night of the 27th, 12 staff members of the Tokyo Fire Department gathered in Kabukicho and conducted an unannounced inspection of 16 multi-tenant buildings.

In the multi-tenant building fire 20 years ago, a large amount of cardboard and lockers were placed on the stairs that served as an evacuation route, and the fire door was also in a state where it could not be closed by a nearby beer case. It is said that it led to a catastrophe.

For this reason, on-site inspections focused on confirming whether evacuation routes were secured, and instructed managers to remove items placed on the stairs.

According to the Tokyo Fire Department, there are many cases where the multi-tenant building in Kabukicho is repeatedly violated due to frequent tenant changes, and even on the night of the 27th, 13 out of 16 buildings violated such as obstacles in the evacuation route. It means that it was confirmed.

Tomoya Matsuda, assistant fire commander of the Shinjuku Mobile Inspection Corps of the Tokyo Fire Department, said, "It's been 20 years since the fire in the multi-tenant building in Kabukicho, and the awareness of the fire is fading, so many people's lives were killed at that time. I would like to continue teaching so that the same thing will not happen again while politely telling me that I was robbed. "
