The Benny Prize is an annual prize of SEK 100,000 to cultural creators who, in the spirit of Benny Fredriksson, are driven by a strong passion for art and to reach out widely, Kulturhuset stadsteatern writes in a press release.

It should have been handed out for the first time last year, but the pandemic put a stop to it.

Therefore, two prize winners are now presented.

Artist Lisa Nilsson receives the 2020 award and dancehall star Binta Coker receives the award for 2021.

The Benny prize consists of SEK 100,000 and a brass nose, designed by the artist Fredrik Wretman.

The prize money is co-financed by Kulturhuset Stadsteatern and Anne Sofie von Otter, Benny Fredriksson's wife.

- I am very happy that we were able to institute this award.

It provides an opportunity to draw attention to artists and other artists who in various ways strengthen the position of culture in society and develop the artistic expressions.

It is also a way to let Benny and the memory of him live on in the field of culture in a bright and forward-looking way, says Anne Sofie von Otter in the press release.

The award ceremony will take place on the Parkteatern's stage in Galärparken in Stockholm on 29 August.
