According to a news released on the China Government Network on the 26th, the General Office of the State Council of China recently issued a letter agreeing to Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau to host the 15th National Games (National Games) in 2025, and the administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor welcomed this on the same day.
According to the Information Service of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said that being able to co-host the 15th National Games in 2025 with Guangdong and Macau is a boost to Hong Kong's sports development following Hong Kong’s historic success in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, she would like to thank the Central Government for its trust and support.
Carrie Lam said: "It is of great significance to jointly organize the National Games by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and it is in line with the "Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan Outline" to build a recreational bay area and shape the goal of a healthy bay area."
She said that the Kai Tak Sports Park, consisting of a main stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators, an indoor stadium with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, and a public sports arena with a capacity of 5,000 spectators, will be completed and opened in 2023. The Hong Kong Velodrome and other sports facilities, which have hosted many international events, are sufficient to provide a basis for Hong Kong to participate in the hosting of the 15th National Games.
Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor pointed out that the Hong Kong SAR government will go all out to make preparations in close cooperation with relevant central ministries and commissions, the Guangdong Province and Macao SAR governments in accordance with the central government’s insistence on "simplicity, safety and splendor" for organizing the competition.
It is reported that the National Games is held every 4 years and is the highest level and largest comprehensive sports meeting in the country.
The 14th National Games will be held in Shaanxi in September this year.
