McDonald's stops selling milkshakes in Britain

McDonald's: The chain is working to solve the problem. AFP

McDonald's has stopped selling milkshakes and bottled drinks in most parts of Britain, due to supply chain problems, the American group said.

"Like most retailers, we are currently experiencing some problems in the supply chain... Bottled drinks and milkshakes are currently being cut" in branches in England, Scotland and Wales, said a statement issued by the group, a copy of which was received by AFP.

A McDonald's spokesperson said the chain was working to resolve the issue "as quickly as possible."

The announcement came after the South African group, Nando's, revealed last week that it was unable to provide enough chicken, and was forced to close about 50 branches in Britain due to a shortage of labor for suppliers and a decrease in the number of truck drivers.

The outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic and the isolation measures for those who may have come into contact with infected people have caused a shortage of labor in some food producers, while the shortage of workers and truck drivers is also attributed to Brexit, which reduced the number of EU citizens authorized to work in Britain.

On the 11th of this month, the company "KFC" for fast food chicken, said that it is possible that some products are not available and some packaging is different than usual due to "disorders".
