The SL Ginga, which JR East operates in Iwate Prefecture to cheer up the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, has resumed operation for the first time in about a year after completing vehicle inspections.

SL Ginga is named after Kenji Miyazawa's novel "Night on the Galactic Railroad" from Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, and has been operating since 2014 to cheer up the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

JR East had suspended operation because it was inspecting and servicing locomotives, but on the 21st, it resumed operation for the first time in about a year, and in commemoration of the resumption of operation, a train from Morioka Station to Kamaishi Station It was operated specially.

When the SL Ginga arrived at the platform of Morioka Station around 7:30 am, families and railroad fans took a commemorative photo and boarded the train.

A man in his 40s from Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, said, "I'm leaving from Morioka, so I'm here to ride. I'm looking forward to the welcome of the locals."

The SL Ginga will run from Hanamaki Station to Kamaishi Station from 22nd, every Saturday and Sunday until December 5th.
