Recently, the 2021i-VISTA Autonomous Vehicle Challenge kicked off in Chongqing. A number of professional teams from domestic universities, research institutions, and car companies competed for the "strongest car brain" here.

The challenge field includes complex and changeable urban traffic scenes such as vehicle confluence, S-shaped road driving, and pedestrian crossing roads.

The reporter saw in the AEB Automatic Emergency Braking Challenge that the competition mainly assesses the automatic braking function of self-driving cars in emergency situations.

This year's AEB Challenge has set up two scenes of unobstructed and obstructed pedestrian crossing, especially the latter commonly known as "ghost probe", which greatly challenged the on-site performance of the participating vehicles' AEB system.

The reporter saw that on the way the participating vehicles were advancing, a car was parked on each side, and a dummy suddenly appeared from behind one of the parked cars and came to the middle of the road.

Some vehicles braked and stopped in front of the dummy, while others "ignored" the dummy who suddenly jumped out and ran into it.

It is understood that this challenge will focus on testing the ability of autonomous vehicles to adapt to actual complex roads, their ability to perceive and process typical urban road conditions, and their emergency response to traffic emergencies.
