• Unvaccinated members of the GIGN will no longer be able to exercise from September 1, according to an internal note relayed on Twitter.

  • This document is authentic, as

    20 Minutes

    has been able to verify

    .

  • But its content has lapsed since the publication, on August 17, of a note from the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie making vaccination compulsory from September 15 to a larger category of gendarmes (including the GIGN).

“From September 1, 2021, if a member of the GIGN [National Gendarmerie Intervention Group] has not performed an anti-Covid vaccination, he will be declared unfit to serve at the GIGN!

"

To support its comments, this Twitter account is based on an extract from an "express note" which was sent on July 6, 2021 to "all [the] GIGN staff" and which indicates in particular: "A vaccination campaign for military personnel of the national gendarmerie is underway, operated by the Armed Forces Health Service (SSA).

[…] This compulsory vaccination, included in the army's vaccination calendar, will follow a schedule that takes into account the operational requirements of the DGGN [General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie] and vaccine deliveries ”.

“Consequently, all GIGN soldiers (operational forces and staffs) must be vaccinated.

[…] As of September 1, 2021, if a GIGN soldier has not completed his anti-Covid vaccination, he will be declared unfit to serve at the GIGN ”, this document further indicates.

FAKE OFF

This note is authentic and has been distributed within the GIGN, as confirmed by a source close to the file at

20 Minutes

... while specifying that "it has become obsolete since the publication of a note from the DGGN dated 17 August, this one emanating from a higher authority ”.

As AFP indicated, the latter indeed specifies which personnel will be affected by the vaccination obligation by September 15, 2021: "military personnel, active and reserve, in public security missions, road safety, law enforcement, judicial police and reception or providing services in contact with the public or people outside the gendarmerie ”.

The members of the GIGN are therefore also part of this list.

This measure stems from an instruction from the central management of the armed forces health service (SSA) dated July 29 and revealed by

Le Monde

aimed at "preserving the health of personnel and maintaining the operational capacity of the armed forces".

The gendarmes concerned will thus be part, along with the nursing and non-nursing staff of hospitals and retirement homes, professionals and volunteers working with the elderly, as well as firefighters or ambulance attendants, of the professions concerned by the vaccination obligation - unlike police officers, only encouraged to be vaccinated by their superiors.
