Kyoto University Hospital announced that a woman who had been infected with the new coronavirus and suffered from severe lung sequelae and had surgery to transplant both lungs in April recovered and was discharged this week.

I was discharged from Kyoto University Hospital on the 16th of this month because I lived in Kansai in early April and had surgery to transplant both lungs after receiving a part of the left and right lungs from my husband and son. I'm a woman.

According to the hospital, the woman was infected with the new coronavirus at the end of last year and suffered from severe pneumonia in both lungs, and the lung function was not expected to recover after that, but 5 months after the transplant operation. He moved from the intensive care unit to the general ward in early May, and after that he had no problems breathing and recovered until he could walk indoors.

After being discharged from the hospital, the woman will be admitted to another hospital and continue rehabilitation, so she may be able to return to her home in a month or two.

It also means that the husband and son are already living a normal life.

According to Kyoto University, this is the first living-donor lung transplant in the world for patients with lung sequelae with the new Corona.

Professor Hiroshi Date, the chief of respiratory surgery, said, "For more than three months before the transplant, my muscle strength was considerably weakened due to bedridden, and it took longer than expected, but I was able to recover safely and feel at ease. For patients with the new Corona, I think we were able to shed some light as a new treatment option when there was no other treatment option. "
