It is noted that the actor was diagnosed with a coronavirus at the end of last month.

At first he was treated at home, but later his pneumonia worsened and he was hospitalized on 8 August.

On August 19, he died at the hospital in Kimitsu.

Chiba is best known for his roles as Samurai Hattori Hanzo in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill and Uncle Kamata in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

Earlier it was reported that French actor Thierry Liagre passed away at the age of 68.
