• The Saint-Orens vaccination center, near Toulouse, was able to reopen on Wednesday, 24 hours after being the target of a break-in.

  • The intruders did not steal anything, they contented themselves with abusing the computers and destroying 3,500 doses of vaccines.

  • Patrols will be stepped up around all the vaccination centers in Haute-Garonne.

“They didn't even steal a pen!

".

At the Saint-Orens vaccination center, which reopened its doors on Wednesday morning, 24 hours after a night intrusion that paralyzed its operation, the huge piles of compresses are intact in the reserve.

In this room in the communal hall transformed into a giant medical cabinet, only the secure cupboard containing the team's computers and the small - but precious - refrigerator were targeted.

Laptops were for some trampled to the ground.

As for the 500 vials, delivered the day before, and each containing up to seven doses of Pfizer vaccine, they were simply taken out of the fridge and scattered on the ground.

"The cold chain has been broken, they are no longer usable", indicates Jean Favarel, the doctor in charge of the center who does not hide his "disgust".

No theft, then, just a broken door and neutralization of the vaccines.

But no raging or antivax tag either.

Video surveillance and door-to-door

After the forensic findings made on the spot Tuesday morning, the gendarmes will in particular use the testimony, the video surveillance of this industrial zone of Marcaisonne, and continue their door-to-door.

They do not officially rule out any leads but the absence of theft will guide their investigations.

The Toulouse research section is on the case, supported by the Villefranche-de-Lauragais gendarmes.

“The offense is serious.

We are determined to gather the evidence, to identify the perpetrators, and to bring them before the magistrates, ”assures General Charles Bourillon, the head of the gendarmerie.

Those responsible for this "degradation of goods of general interest" incur up to 5 years in prison and a 75,000 euros fine.

At the worst time

From the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin to the mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR), the announcement of the waste of 3,500 doses of vaccine aroused indignation. "This is a stupid and irresponsible act (...), a criminal act, while the department is in a particularly difficult situation [352 cases per 100,000 inhabitants] and that the intensive care services are in tension", was offended Denis Olagnon, the secretary general of the prefecture of Haute-Garonne, visiting this Wednesday in the vandalized center with Dominique Faure, the mayor of the town.

“We have come to bring a message of support and solidarity to people who invest in the general interest.

And the general interest is to be vaccinated because when you are not, you are twelve times more likely to end up in critical care, ”insisted the representative of the State.

Vigils in Saint-Orens and patrols everywhere else

Throughout the department, the security forces have "received instructions for enhanced vigilance."

Police and gendarmerie patrols will multiply around the vaccination centers.

Concerning Saint-Orens, the town hall has opted for the nocturnal presence of two vigils.

Since the beginning of the month in Toulouse, the offices of the Order of Nurses have been degraded by antivax and a threatening message has been discovered at the vaccinodrome.
